Narek Karapetyan: Government to be formed in Armenia following  elections to ensure compatibility of country`s weapons

ArmInfo.The government formed following the parliamentary elections in Armenia on June 7 will create a robust security system that will ensure the harmonisation of all acquired weapons. Narek Karapetyan, a member of the board of the Strong Armenia party, made this statement on May 28 at the Sardarapat Memorial Complex on the occasion of First Republic Day.

Speaking about the military parade organized on May 28, he expressed  his conviction that it was held with one goal - to demonstrate before  the parliamentary elections that the current government in Armenia  was able to acquire at least some military equipment. "But I am  confident that the next government in Armenia will receive these  weapons as gifts, purchase them at competitive prices, and Armenia  will have a robust security system that will ensure all acquired  weapons are interoperable. This is not the case today, which could  lead to major problems," Karapetyan emphasized.

Furthermore, he noted that the country's authorities are mismanaging  their relations with their allies, focusing only on resolving  relations with Azerbaijan. According to him, this will prevent the  country from maintaining a balance of power. The party board member  called it unprecedented for a country that poses a threat to Armenia  to be the guarantor of its security. "This is unprecedented in the  world. Don't you think this country has ambitions to absorb Armenia?  We must preserve Armenian identity-that is our primary task now. We  must develop Armenia, create an environment in which the Armenian  population will grow and our compatriots living in other countries  will be able to return to their homeland," Karapetyan assured.

In this regard, he called on the Armenian people to make the right  choice in the parliamentary elections.  "The people of Armenia must  choose to build Armenia. We must create a model in Armenia within  which our country can create jobs in the region. The current model  only leads to us worsening our relations with our allies, in exchange  for two congratulatory messages from Turkey and Azerbaijan. But, I  repeat, our long-standing adversaries cannot be our friends. We will  strive to improve relations with them, but, without forgetting the  existing threat, we will also build allied relations with other  countries 'for a rainy day.' This is precisely why Armenia has  survived the past 100 years," the Strong Armenia party board member  concluded.

As a reminder, Armenia celebrates First Republic Day on May 28. On  that day, a parade was held in Republic Square, during which the  country's authorities demonstrated their newly acquired weapons. It  should be noted that the last large-scale military parade in Armenia  took place on September 21, 2016, in Republic Square in Yerevan,  following the 4-day April War of 2016.
