ArmInfo. The former Speaker of the Parliament of Artsakh, David Ishkhanyan, has sent a message from a Baku prison, which was publicized through his family.
In his message, Ishkhanyan stated that their appeal hearing against the so-called court verdict of February 5 of this year would be held on June 1. He also noted that they have still not received copies of the indictment for this judicial sham. Furthermore, he stated that he had requested the court session to be broadcast, but this petition was denied. In his words, this is not a trial, but a tragicomedy. Ishkhanyan added that he has yet to receive responses to his appeals addressed to the Ombudsmen of both Armenia and Azerbaijan.
"As for this mock trial, it's being drawn out and synchronized with political processes. Two or three months ago, back in January–February 2024, officials who interacted with us indirectly led us to understand that 'you are here for as long as the authorities of Armenia desire it.' At first, we paid no attention to this and were bewildered: how could this be, how could our own home authorities not want our return? But from today's perspective, everything is already perfectly clear.
Unfortunately, the unfolding of events and the desire to tailor this trial to political processes, including those taking place in Armenia, leave us with no other opinion. And this opinion is already growing into a conviction. Especially against the backdrop of recent events, when statements are being made about the people of Karabakh that are completely untrue. I don't want to stoop to that level, but someday there will be another opportunity to talk about this. It's already obvious to everyone who is to blame and whose actions led to all this. Be that as it may, we've been here for about three years now. I must say that neither integrity, nor prudence, nor strength of spirit and will have abandoned us or betrayed us. This will continue to be the case," his message reads.
