ArmInfo. The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Armenia has annulled the registration of the progressive centrist Alliance Party, led by Tigran Urikhanyan, for the upcoming parliamentary elections on June 7.
As the press service of the Central Election Commission of Armenia told ArmInfo, this means that there will be no ballot paper number 13 in the upcoming parliamentary elections. "At the extraordinary meeting of the Central Election Commission held on May 26, authorized representatives of the Alliance Party were present and confirmed the adoption of this decision by the permanent body of their political party. Therefore, the Central Election Commission has invalidated the registration of the Alliance Party," the Commission concluded.
As a reminder, the party had previously announced its withdrawal. Alliance Party Chairman Tigran Urikhanyan, speaking on the Public Television of Armenia (PTA), stated that all parties that are unable to overcome the minimum threshold and still remain in the election race are providing the votes necessary for the victory of incumbent Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his team. "Without abusing the resources, time, health, nerves, and money invested, we are withdrawing from the race, proving that the party "The Alliance is a real, non-systemic opposition, reserving for itself the obligation to wage a radical struggle and form a popular wave if, God forbid, they win these elections," Urikhanyan stated.
