ArmInfo. Ensuring women's employment will be a priority for the "Strong Armenia" party. Narek Karapetyan, the number one candidate on the party's electoral list, announced this on May 21 during a meeting with voters in Aragatsavan village, Aragatsotn region.
"Of course, job creation is vital for community development, and not just in agriculture—especially when it comes to women's employment. The textile industry stands out as the most promising sector for women in Armenia," Karapetyan stated. According to him, the textile sector could become a major catalyst for regional job creation. "Textiles are exactly what will deliver employment. At one time, hundreds of thousands of people were employed in this industry across Armenia. Our goal is to rebuild the textile industry here and establish a textile factory so that local women have access to sustainable jobs," he noted.
Karapetyan also addressed key issues in agriculture, pointing specifically to the challenges surrounding apricot sales. He explained that one of the primary obstacles is the lack of procurement centers. As a result, prices collapse during the peak harvest season, leaving farmers unable to sell their crops profitably. To resolve this, the party proposes establishing dedicated procurement hubs and cold-storage facilities across various regions of Armenia. These facilities would purchase produce from farmers at predetermined, fixed prices and manage their export to international markets.
"This will finally allow us to sell Armenian produce at prices that reflect its true value abroad, where market prices are several times higher," Karapetyan said. He added that it is equally critical to resolve the ongoing bottlenecks at the Upper Lars checkpoint to ensure that agricultural exports move swiftly and without spoilage.
