ArmInfo. Official Yerevan welcomes Turkey's decision to lift barriers to bilateral trade with Armenia, which is another result of the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey. This was stated in a statement by Armenian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ani Badalyan regarding Turkey's decision to lift barriers to bilateral trade with Armenia.
"This decision is of great importance for expanding trade and business ties between the two countries, promoting economic connectivity in the region, and ensuring peace and prosperity. We emphasize that this is an important step towards the development of full and normal relations between the two countries, which can logically continue with the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border and the establishment of diplomatic relations," the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It should be noted that Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Oncu Keceli stated on May 13 that, as part of confidence-building measures being undertaken in the normalization process with Armenia, which has been ongoing since 2022, bureaucratic preparations for the launch of direct trade between our country and Armenia had been completed as of May 11, 2026. He added that the necessary technical and bureaucratic work to open the common border between the two countries is still ongoing.
The launch of the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey was announced on December 13, 2021, by then-Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. He also emphasized that Ankara would coordinate with Azerbaijan on steps to normalize relations with Armenia. The parties appointed special representatives of Turkey and Armenia for the normalization process, Serdar K?l?c and Ruben Rubinyan, who have already held several rounds of negotiations, but have not yet achieved any breakthroughs, other than the launch of air cargo and passenger services.
