ArmInfo. As part of confidence-building measures undertaken in the process of normalizing relations with Armenia, which has been ongoing since 2022, as of May 11, 2026, bureaucratic preparations for the commencement of direct trade between our country and Armenia have been completed. Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Oncu Keceli wrote this on his Twitter account (X).
He added that the necessary technical and bureaucratic work to open the common border between the two countries is still ongoing.
"Thanks to the new regulation, it is now possible to ship goods from Turkey to a third country and from there to Armenia (or vice versa via the same route) with the indication 'Armenia/Turkey' as the final destination or origin.
In light of the historic opportunity that has arisen to strengthen lasting peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus, Turkey will continue to contribute to the development of economic relations in the region and the further advancement of cooperation for the benefit of all countries and peoples in the region," the Turkish diplomat stated.
The launch of the normalization process between Armenia and Turkey was announced on December 13, 2021, by then-Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. He also emphasized that Ankara would coordinate with Azerbaijan on steps to normalize relations with Armenia. The parties appointed special representatives of Turkey and Armenia for the normalization process - Serdar K?l?c and Ruben Rubinyan - who have already held several rounds of negotiations, but have so far failed to achieve any breakthrough decisions, other than the launch of air cargo and passenger transportation.
