ArmInfo.Ara Aivazyan, former Foreign Minister of Armenia and current parliamentary candidate for the Prosperous Armenia party, stated that a victory for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in the upcoming elections would trigger a never-ending cycle of territorial and political demands from Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Speaking during a panel discussion on Tuesday, Aivazyan expressed a "deeply pessimistic" outlook for Armenia's sovereignty if the current administration is returned to office. "Baku and Ankara will continue their strategy of stripping Armenia of its viability—leaving behind only a weak, characterless entity," Aivazyan stated. "You talk about settling Azerbaijanis in Armenia, but they will not stop there. They speak daily of the so-called 'Zangezur Corridor' and the enclaves. I am certain this list will only grow. Therefore, following the upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia, a government must be formed that understands state interests, where our red lines lie, and that it must move in this direction without any clashes," he stated.
It should be noted that Azerbaijan is currently trying to promote the "return" of 300,000 Azerbaijanis to their homeland—Armenia. It's worth noting that this is happening at a time when, according to the 1989 Armenian census, just over 60,000 Azerbaijanis lived in the Armenian SSR, all of whom left Armenia voluntarily and received appropriate compensation from the state. Meanwhile, around 500,000 Armenians fled Azerbaijan naked, trying to save themselves, leaving all their belongings behind. However, no one talks about them today.
