ArmInfo. The upcoming parliamentary elections in Armenia are a question of whether Armenia will become a nation state or not. Azerbaijan expert Tatevik Hayrapetyan writes about this on her Facebook page.
"If the "Let's Destroy the State" party remains in power, Armenia will definitively become a territory subordinate to Aliyev. It will be Baku that decides what kind of church we will have, what kind of history we will have, what we will talk about, what mountains we will look at, what kind of Constitution we will have, etc. For now, I'm talking about "soft" and very obvious trends; other, much more dangerous ones are not yet visible, but for me, as a specialist, they are more than obvious," the expert noted.
However, according to Tatevik Hayrapetyan, unlike the 2021 elections, the current elections have seen a certain diversity in the opposition field, which is a positive sign. "I see an opportunity to achieve a change of power. In 2021, I, more or less knowing our society, understood that the artificial dilemma created by the past leads to the reproduction of the present. This time, I know that if there is absolute and unconditional consensus on two main issues, then the removal of the liar will be entirely realistic. These two issues: Pashinyan is Aliyev's candidate, and the "Let's Destroy the State" party is a puppet force of Azerbaijan. Moreover, this is proven by the facts and their speeches. Regardless of their political views, the citizens of Armenia must go to the polls on June 7; their vote will determine the future of Armenia and all of us. These two issues must constantly circulate in the discourse of all political forces whose real goal is to remove them from power. I assure you that a month of joint discussion of these two issues between the public and the opposition will yield results. Many, assessing the catastrophic and irreversible consequences of the current party's stay in power, will go to the polls on June 7. Nikol Pashinyan won't secure a majority; only a small electorate, fueled by his pro-Azerbaijani talking points and aggressive propaganda, will turn out for him. It's important for us that a majority opposed to this government comes to the polls. If 1.4 million people go to the polls, then in a month, on the morning of June 8, "Destroy the State" will be consigned to the dustbin of history, along with the hatred it preached, the pain it brought, the losses it inflicted, the immorality it sowed, the anti-church campaigns, the dangerous Azerbaijani narratives, and so on. "Dear oppositionists, put your ambitions aside. These elections aren't just about you; these elections are about Armenia. Try to win the hearts of Armenians. Don't lose your minds, don't succumb to manipulative plans. Create your own plans and work, work tirelessly. This will definitely bring results," the expert concluded. As a reminder, Armenia will hold its next parliamentary elections on June 7, with 19 political forces - 17 parties and 2 blocs - participating.
