ArmInfo. The Commonwealth Film Festival will be held in Meghri from September 18th to 20th. The festival aims to support young filmmakers and develop professional collaboration between filmmakers from the CIS countries. The festival is part of the Meghri - Cultural Capital of the CIS program. The goal of the event is to develop professional, cultural, and creative collaboration between young filmmakers from the Commonwealth countries, support young filmmakers, expand professional networks, and create a platform for the exchange of film experiences.
The festival's competition program accepts short feature films by young filmmakers from Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
Films produced between 2024 and 2025, up to 30 minutes in length, are eligible for participation. The film must be directed by a director between the ages of 18 and 35 at the production completion date. The film can be in any language, but Russian subtitles are mandatory for consideration (applications will be accepted until May 31, 2026).
The festival's competition program will include 30 short feature films. In addition to the competition screenings, the program will include retrospective screenings, panel discussions, creative meetings, opening and closing ceremonies, and a cultural program in Meghri.
The organizers note that the festival aims to become a new platform for dialogue between young filmmakers from the Commonwealth and to facilitate the development of future joint projects.
For participants, the festival will provide an opportunity to present their work to an international audience, exchange experiences with colleagues from the Commonwealth, and establish new professional connections. For Meghri, this is an opportunity to become a hub for young filmmakers, cultural initiatives, and interstate humanitarian cooperation. The festival is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia and the Interstate Fund for Humanitarian Cooperation of the CIS Member States.
