The President of Bulgaria visited Yerevan School No. 131 named after Bulgarian poet Peyo Yavorov

ArmInfo. During a visit to Yerevan Elementary School No. 131, named after the renowned Bulgarian poet Peyo Yavorov, Bulgarian President Iliana Yotova stated that she knows of no other poet who has written about Armenians and Armenia with such passion. The Bulgarian President arrived in Yerevan on May 3 to participate in the 8th European Political Community Summit, which will take place tomorrow in the Armenian capital.

During the visit, the delegation led by Yotova visited the Yavorov School, where they were warmly received. Students from the Yerevan school, which has a Bulgarian slant, greeted the Bulgarian President with bread and salt, then sang the song "Moya Bulgaria" for her and danced a Bulgarian national dance.

Admiring the reception, Yotova noted that it was very touching for her to see a monument to the renowned Bulgarian poet Peyo Yavorov in front of the school in Yerevan.

"With his work 'Armenians' and other works, Yavorov shed light on what happened to Armenians during the Ottoman Empire. I don't know of another poet who wrote with such reverence about Armenians and all of Armenian history," she said. The Bulgarian president also recalled the Armenians who contributed to Bulgaria's liberation struggle from the Ottoman yoke.

In her welcoming speech, Oytava also spoke about the Armenian schools operating in Bulgaria. "Today, there are five Armenian schools in our country, and soon there will be six, which contributes to the development of friendly relations between our countries. Children are taught Armenian art and culture in these schools. The students know Armenian songs and dances just as well as the Armenian children here are familiar with Bulgarian culture," she noted.

In conclusion, the Bulgarian President invited the teachers and students of School No. 131 to the town of Chirpan, Yavorov's birthplace, to experience the poet's hometown firsthand.

At the end of the visit, the Bulgarian President signed the school's book of honored guests. She was accompanied by Bulgarian Ambassador to Armenia Nikola Nikolaev.
