All-Armenian Council for Protection of .Armenian Apostolic Church  appreciates European Parliament`s position on destruction of Armenian  heritage

ArmInfo. The All-Armenian Council for Protection of .Armenian Apostolic Church expresses its deep gratitude to the European Parliament for the resolution adopted on April 30, 2026, which clearly outlines the need to protect the Armenian Christian cultural, spiritual, and historical heritage of  Artsakh. This is stated in a statement by the Council.

"We consider it particularly important that the European Parliament,  in its resolution, drew attention to the danger of the destruction,  desecration, or distortion of the identity of Armenian churches,  monasteries, khachkars, cemeteries, and other holy sites in the  territory of Artsakh. This heritage is not only the property of the  Armenian people; it is an integral part of Christian civilization,  the historical memory of the region, and the culture of all  humanity," the statement reads.

It also confirms that the Pan-Armenian Council for the Preservation  of the Armenian Church highly appreciates the position of the  European Parliament in demanding accountability for the damage and  destruction of Armenian cultural and religious heritage. "We are  convinced that the silence of international structures in such cases  contributes to impunity, while a clear political and legal assessment  can prevent new crimes against cultural heritage. We call on the  European Union, UNESCO, the Council of Europe, the relevant UN  bodies, and international human rights organizations to take  immediate measures to ensure the preservation, independent  monitoring, documentation, and international oversight of Armenian  Christian monuments in Artsakh. It is essential to ensure free and  safe access for international experts to monasteries, churches,  khachkars, historical cemeteries, and other cultural sites in Artsakh  to assess their actual condition and document any destruction or  distortion. We also emphasize that the protection of the rights of  the Armenians of Artsakh is inseparable from the protection of their  spiritual and cultural heritage. The people, their faith, their  churches, their cemeteries, and their historical memory are a single  whole. The destruction of any part of this whole poses a threat not  only to the Armenian people, but also to the international legal  order and the idea of cultural diversity," the statement reads.

The document also expresses the Council's readiness to cooperate with  all international structures, church organizations, human rights  defenders, and cultural heritage specialists in protecting the  Armenian Christian holy sites of Artsakh. "We express our gratitude  to the European Parliament for its commitment to this important  issue, raising the issue of threats to the Armenian Christian  heritage of Artsakh and upholding the principles of justice and  accountability," the statement reads.
