ArmInfo. On the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey, Serzh Sargsyan, the third President of Armenia, stated that April 24 remains a special and sacred day for him, one that has nothing in common with everyday life.
In response to journalists' questions during a visit to the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex, Sargsyan emphasized that attempts to consign issues related to Artsakh and the historical and cultural heritage of the Armenian people to oblivion are doomed to failure. "No one can consign this to oblivion in the literal sense. Whether someone wants to forget is their business, but it is impossible," he said. Touching on the destruction of Armenian churches in Artsakh, Sargsyan expressed confidence that the authorities' lack of response is a consequence of their political course. He added that concrete steps in this direction are not to be expected.
Referring to the events of recent years, the third president linked the forced expulsion of the Armenian population from Nagorno-Karabakh to the policy of denying the Armenian Genocide. "This has always been their goal, and today it continues to be their daily policy. One is a continuation of the other," Sargsyan stated.
It is worth noting that the third President of the Republic of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, who is also the leader of the Republican Party of Armenia, visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial Complex with his daughter and grandchildren on Genocide Remembrance Day. President Sargsyan paid tribute to the memory of the victims, laid a wreath at the memorial, and placed flowers at the Eternal Flame, which honors the innocent victims.
