


ArmInfo. A series of events will be held in Yerevan and different regions to mark April 18, International Day of Monuments and Sites.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, there will be information campaigns, excursions, hiking trips, educational visits to monuments, educational programs for schoolchildren in the form of open lessons, quizzes, lectures, as well as cleanup work at monuments and adjacent areas.
The program aims to popularize monuments, raise public awareness of cultural heritage and its vulnerability, and emphasize the need for measures to protect and preserve it. According to the source, schoolchildren are expected to actively participate in the planned events, as the preservation and promotion of monuments are seen as additional components of the educational process.
Every year on 18 April, ICOMOS celebrates the "International Day for Monuments and Sites", whose establishment was approved by the 22nd UNESCO General Conference in 1983. The aim of the International Day for Monuments and Sites is to encourage local communities and individuals throughout the world to consider the importance of cultural heritage to their lives, identities and communities, and to promote awareness of its diversity and vulnerability and the efforts required to protect and conserve it.
