ArmInfo. On April 15, RA Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports Zhanna Andreasyan held a videoconference with Serbian Minister of Internal and Foreign Trade Jagoda Lazarevic.
The discussion focused on preparatory work for the first meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Serbia. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Artur Martirosyan.
According to the press service of the MESCS, Zhanna Andreasyan is the co-chair of the commission from the Armenian side, and Jagoda Lazarevic is the co-chair of the commission from the Serbian side. Andreasyan welcomed her colleague and emphasized the importance of establishing the Intergovernmental Commission serving as a platform for advancing bilateral relations and institutionalizing cooperation. She noted the strong political will to jointly achieve concrete and measurable results. It was noted that the first session of the Intergovernmental Commission will likely be held in Yerevan in the autumn of 2026.
The Armenian minister also underscored the importance of launching joint research programs. Zhanna Andreasyan proposed organizing a business forum and a scientific and technical exhibition in parallel with the session of the Intergovernmental Commission, ensuring the active participation of the business communities and representatives of the innovation sector of both countries. The parties also attached great importance to developing cooperation in high technology and innovation, emphasizing the vast opportunities available, including in artificial intelligence, innovation centers, and the development of manufacturing capacities.
The head of the MOESCS noted that Armenia will host several major international events in 2026, emphasizing the importance of the participation of Serbian delegations. Specifically, the 8th European Political Community Summit is scheduled for early May, which, according to Zhanna Andreasyan, is an important platform for deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation.
Furthermore, this autumn, Armenia will host COP-17, where important issues related to biodiversity conservation will be discussed. The importance of the Serbian delegation's participation was emphasized, as was the promotion of cooperation in culture, education, and youth work at this event. It was noted that COP-17 could also serve as an effective platform for strengthening ties between universities and youth organizations.
The meeting concluded with parties reaffirming their commitment to active cooperation to ensure the effective work of the intergovernmental commission and promote the further development of relations between Armenia and Serbia.
