The ceremony honored the victims of the Mets Yeghern, the Armenian Genocide, who were subjected to  massacre, deportation, and famine in the Ottoman Empire because of their Armenian heritage, as reported by the Embassy of the Republic  of Armenia in Kazakhstan.
