ArmInfo. The Georgian Orthodox Church has elected a new Catholicos-Patriarch. The locum tenens of the Patriarchal Throne and Metropolitan of Senaki and Chkhorotsku, Shio (Mujiri), has been elected as the 142nd  Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia.   Metropolitan Shio secured 22 votes during the election held at the  expanded church council convened at the Holy Trinity Cathedral  (Sameba Cathedral) in Tbilisi.  As for the other candidates,  Metropolitan Iobi of the Urbnisi and Ruisi Diocese received nine  votes, while Metropolitan Grigoli of Poti and Khobi secured seven  votes. One ballot was annulled.  Under Church regulations, only  bishops were entitled to participate in the vote. A candidate  required more than half of the votes cast by participating bishops to  be elected Catholicos-Patriarch.

In recent years, 170 billion drams have been allocated for the development of Armenia's military-industrial complex, and dozens of new defense industry enterprises have been created to produce military products, as stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan to journalists on May 11 during the election campaign in the capital's Erebuni district.

Narek Karapetyan, a member of the political council of the Strong Armenia  party, stated this live on his Facebook page, demonstrating the  location of the strategic road along which the "Trump Route for  International Peace and Prosperity" (TRIPP) is supposed to run.

ArmInfo. The European Union will  support Armenia in its desire to become an EU member, stated European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, commenting on the latest statements regarding Armenia's membership in the EU and the Eurasian  Economic Union (EAEU).

ArmInfo.  Defrocked Bishop Arman Saroyan (formerly Primate of the Masiatsotn Diocese Gevorg Saroyan - ed.) continues to operate bank accounts belonging to the Armenian  Apostolic Church (AAC). This was announced by lawyer Ara Zohrabyan at  a press conference in Yerevan.

ArmInfo.  The introduction of a new biometric passport system in Armenia requires the adoption of relevant legislation. At the extraordinary session of the National  Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on May 11, the first session will  discuss the draft law "On Identity Documents" and a package of  amendments to related documents.

ArmInfo.  Penalties for drug trafficking will be tightened in Armenia. At an extraordinary session on May 11, the RA National Assembly Committee on State and Legal  Affairs approved the amendments to the Criminal Code submitted for  second reading by Hayk Sargsyan, a member of parliament from the  ruling Civil Contract faction.

ArmInfo.  Armenia does not want membership in the European Union, a fact well known in Moscow, Brussels, Washington, and Yerevan. Americanist Suren Sargsyan  expressed a similar opinion.
