In Armenia, an application will be developed to include the site "Areni-1 Cave and Adjacent Wine Landscape" of the Vayots Dzor region in the preliminary list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport (MECS) of Armenia.
To achieve this goal, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the MECS of Armenia, the "Enotourism Council of Armenia" public organization and the "Areni-1 Cave" research foundation.
The memorandum was signed by Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia Alfred Kocharyan, Executive Director of the "Enotourism Council of Armenia" public organization Tigran Martirosyan and Acting Director of the "Areni-1 Cave" research foundation Boris Gasparyan.
"Attaching great importance to the value of historical and cultural heritage, its popularization and transfer to future generations, the parties plan to cooperate by working together to develop an application for the inclusion of the "Areni-1 Cave and Adjacent Wine Landscape" site of the Vayots Dzor region in the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List," the MES said in a statement. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Alfred Kocharyan stressed the importance of signing the memorandum of cooperation and noted that thanks to joint efforts, new monuments were included in the UNESCO World Heritage List after a long break, and this process should be continuous.
