Families of missing soldiers protest at Armenian Parliament, demand  44-day war report

ArmInfo. Relatives of missing servicemen held another protest outside the Armenian parliament. They continue to demand the publication of the  investigative report on the circumstances of the 44-day war in 2020.

The protesters were received by Taguhi Tovmasyan, non-partisan member  of the Armenian parliament. The relatives of the missing servicemen  presented a statement to her  mentioning that they had repeatedly  demanded the declassification of the report and even appealed to the  speaker of the Armenian parliament, Alen Simonyan, to revoke the  order that classified the report. They then stated their demands:  first and foremost, to publish the report. If this is not done, to  provide specific reasons.

Furthermore, the parents noted that, despite the ruling majority in  parliament essentially making all decisions, the opposition must  still present its stance and demand the publication of the report.  They, therefore, proposed organizing hearings in the Armenian  parliament, where each side could present its position on the issue.

In response, Tovmasyan recalled that the opposition had stated from  the very first days that the Investigation Commission  established by  the ruling party to investigate the circumstances of the 44-day war  around Artsakh would be unable to identify the real culprits. "We  have been talking about this from the very first day. Let me remind  you that when the Commission was created, each faction was supposed  to present its members. However, the Armenian authorities completely  took the responsibility for forming this Commission from the  opposition. Therefore, we refused to participate at all," Tovmasyan  said.

She also recalled that the opposition has repeatedly demanded the  publication of the report. She also stated that, in her opinion, the  report is not being published because  Armenian authorities simply  have nothing substantial to present. Tovmasyan believes that Armenian  authorities have essentially classified a document that doesn't even  exist. At the same time, the MP promised those present that during  the next meeting, which will include Prosecutor General of Armenia  Anna Vardapetyan, she will address the issue of accountability  for  the unresolved issue.
